Full Story
Ever put on a phone screen protector and noticed your touch inputs aren’t the same? Maybe you have to press harder since you added the protector. Well, if you’re an owner of a Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, there’s a neat feature you should know about.
According to Android Police, your device will automatically alert you when a screen protector has been added. This is a reminder to enable Screen protector mode. This mode improves the touch sensitivity of your phone’s touchscreen.
But what if you decide to remove the protector? You’ll receive an automatic notification about that too. This reminder will prompt you to disable the Screen protector mode.
Let’s get into the details. When you put a screen protector on your Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, the device will remind you to turn on the Screen protector mode. The notification will read, “Enabling screen protector mode improves touch when using a screen protector.”
Tapping the notification gives you three options. One button takes you to settings, another lets you acknowledge the notification without disabling it, and the third allows you to disable the notification.
So, how do you toggle on the Screen protection mode? If you decide to turn it on, press the first button which takes you to Settings. From there, tap on Display and scroll down to Screen protector mode. Toggle the feature on to “increase touch sensitivity and improve touch when using a screen protector.” It’s a snap, right?
Now, what about when you remove a screen protector from your Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro? You’ll get a notification that reads, “Disabling screen protector mode improves touch when a screen protector is not used.” Tap on the notification and you’ll have the same three options you had when enabling the mode.
If you’re removing the screen protector and decide to disable Screen protector mode, tap the first button. From Settings, tap on Display, scroll down to Screen protector mode, and toggle off the feature. Again, couldn’t be easier, could it?
Currently, this feature is only available on the Pixel 8 series. But don’t be surprised if Google eventually adds this to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 lines. While the 2021 and 2022 Pixel models do offer Screen protector mode, they currently don’t have the automatic notification reminder.
