Telegram, with over 1 billion users globally, is gearing up to launch a tailored version of its messaging app for VisionOS, Apple’s custom operating system for the Vision Pro headset. The app will be available for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, and it has been teased by Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, through a video on his Telegram channel. The teaser provides a sneak peek into the augmented reality (AR) experience, showcasing how the app will function on the Vision Pro. Telegram for VisionOS is designed to align with the visionOS design guidelines and offers a translucent look, bringing a sense of depth to the user experience.
Distinct from its regular version, Telegram for VisionOS will feature a sidebar instead of the traditional tab bar, offering easy access to contacts, calls, chats, and settings. The app will include familiar features found in Telegram for iOS, such as media, audio messages, and Stories. Additionally, users can expect an immersive video player, animated AR stickers, and voice input for composing messages, providing a hands-free option through Siri dictation and the system’s virtual keyboard.
Although details are limited at this point, the launch of Vision Pro in the US is expected in the coming year, giving Telegram time to refine the app for a grand launch. In June, Apple unveiled the Vision Pro AR headset, slated for release in 2024 with a price tag of $3,499 in the US.
