What you should know
- The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will have a 120Hz refresh rate and the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 144Hz refresh rate.
- All three new flagship phones will have Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) displays, allowing the screens to have a minimum refresh rate of 1Hz, saving battery life when displaying static content.
- The batteries powering the Galaxy S24 (4000mAh) and S24+ (4900mAh) should hold up better than last year’s models due to the implementation of LTPO displays.
- The screen touch response speed of Galaxy S24 series has also increased by more than 10%, which may mean smoother and faster response, improving gaming and overall display responsiveness.

Leaks about the Galaxy S24 series have been flying around. The series is set to be unveiled a week from now. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ are said to have a 120Hz refresh rate. The S24 Ultra? It’s got a whopping 144Hz.
The latest leaks are pretty interesting. They claim all three new flagships will feature Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) displays. What’s that, you ask? It’s a fancy way of saying the screens can drop to a 1Hz refresh rate.
This feature is a battery saver. When the screen is static, like when you’re reading emails or messages, the refresh rate drops to 1Hz. Pretty neat, huh? You can reserve your Samsung Galaxy S24 series phone from Samsung and get $50 in Samsung Credit.
The Galaxy S23 and S23+ had a minimum refresh rate of 24Hz. It’s not bad, but it did mean more battery power was used, even with static content. Only the S23 Ultra had the LTPO display last year. It could drop to 1Hz with certain static content.
This year, it’s a different story. All three Galaxy S24 models are equipped with LTPO. The batteries for the S24 (4000mAh) and S24+ (4900mAh) should last longer than last year’s models. Also, the screen touch response speed of the Galaxy S24 series has increased by more than 10%. Smoother and faster response? Yes, please!
Leaker Ice Universe has been on the money so far. Back in August, they predicted all three S24 models would have an LTPO display. Now, they’ve tweeted some new info. They say the screen touch response speed of the S24 series has increased by over 10%.
What’s that mean? It’s all about the touch sampling rate. That’s different from the refresh rate. It’s how often the screen checks for touch input from a finger, stylus, or other source.
The S23 series had a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. That’s 240 checks for touch input every second. The S24 series is said to have an increased touch sampling rate. This should improve gaming and make the display more responsive to touch.
The Galaxy S24 line is expected to be introduced on January 17th at 10 am PST/1 pm EST. Pre-orders are expected to be taken by Samsung on the same day. So, mark your calendars!
